I started to work with the concept of individual versus group. I asked myself whether each of us can stand alone or whether we feel more real or complete as part of a group. In One and multiple I portrayed my friends. I used classical painting techniques to portray the individuals and the group from two different points of view. The first approach was to deconstruct my friends’ bodies and to form a single body where all the personalities are mixing in a kind of cadavre exquis. The second approach was to make large group portraits where each of the depicted characters borders light and shadow.
